foiled!

veggie tagine, in process
Originally uploaded by deepfry.
a few weeks ago, i cooked a tempeh tagine for some new parent friends of mine. i'm not exactly sure what i did, but the result was absolutely divine. honest, it blew me away how good it was. the dish was spiced perfectly and tasted delicious with the israeli couscous i made.

i decided to give tempeh tagine another recipe-less whirl tonight and it just didn't quite cut it. it tastes fine, with all the right spices, but it just hasn't come together in quite the same way it did the other weak. last time the spices were complex and bold. this time, the spices are present and correct, but the flavor doesn't grab a hold of me. it's a bit disappointing.

but it was still fun to make. all those veggies are so colorful and letting everything simmer for half an hour fills up the apartment with the most amazing smell.

easy to know the difference -- the first was a gift - given with love and care and the first time you made it -- the second, altho with love and care, never the same
